Lunelli acquires 50% stake in Bisol Prosecco

The Lunelli Group has acquired a 50% stake in Prosecco producer Bisol as part of a plan by the historic Valdobbiadene winery to lead the global market.

The move comes amid a worldwide surge in the popularity of Prosecco with this investment made possible by a capital increase at the group aimed at financing “an ambitious long-term growth strategy in the name of continuity”, capitalising on the Italian sparking wine’s upward trend.

Earlier this year it was announced that sales of Prosecco had overtaken those of Champagne with millennials in particular driving sales of Italian wines and Prosecco in the US.

The Lunelli Group, based in Trentino, already has full ownership of the Ferrari winery, the Segnana distillery, Surgiva mineral water and the Tenute Lunelli, which produces still wines in Trentino, Tuscany and Umbria, and now 50% of Bisol Desiderio and Figli Srl.

Gianluca and Desiderio Bisol, chairman and technical director of Bisol, will continue at the company continuing the family-run winery which has now reached its twenty-first generation.

Matteo Lunelli, CEO of the Lunelli Group, said: “’This investment in Bisol is consistent with our plan to create a group made up of Italian drinking excellence. We’ve deliberated whether to enter the world of Prosecco for a long time and we’ve found the ideal company in Bisol: a historic and prestigious brand with huge potential for growth, managed by a family we greatly esteem.

“Back in 1952 our grandfather, Bruno Lunelli, started to work alongside Giulio Ferrari and would continue to do so for years. And, as advocates of continuity, today we’ll do the same and work enthusiastically alongside the Bisol family”.

Gianluca Bisol, chairman of the Bisol Valdobbiadene winery, said: “This new capital will help us achieve our objective to grow, particularly abroad, while still maintaining the highest level of quality which has been our only creed for years, just as it has been for the Lunelli family”.
