Treasury Estates’ Wynns joins Bibendum
Wine merchant Bibendum has added Coonawarra winery Wynns to its Australian portfolio alongside Margaret River producer Fraser Gallop and fortified wine specialists Morris of Rutherglen.
Wynns Black Label Cabernet SauvignonOwned by Treasury Wine Estates, who recently appointed a new CEO after continued financial difficulties, Wynns will be distributed by Bibendum to the UK on and off-trade.
Matt Smith, Bibendum’s buying manager for the New World, said: “Wynns is a perfect fit for Bibendum, an iconic, quality-focused producer with a range of wines that work across a variety of channels. We already work very closely with Treasury Wine Estates on Penfolds and when the opportunity to partner with Wynns came up, we jumped at the chance.”
Fraser Gallop is a family-owned winery whose cellar is overseen by winemaker Clive Otto, formerly of Vasse Felix, who is known for his Chardonnays, Cabernets and Semillon-Sauvignon blends.
Morris of Rutherglen, founded in 1859, is one of Australia’s oldest wineries producing sweet fortified wines under the guidance of fifth generation winemaker David Morris.
Smith added: “We are always looking for new, exciting producers and Fraser Gallop and Morris are certainly exciting – albeit for different reasons. Fraser Gallop’s wines really stood out in a recent WA blind tasting for their purity and balance. In addition, I have always had a soft spot for Rutherglen stickies and Morris in particular. They are phenomenal wines that are full of history and great value too. I’m delighted Bibendum will be bringing this unique style to a much wider audience.”
Fraser Gallop and Morris of Rutherglen will be made available to the on-trade and independent merchants only.
