Pub’s wine store raided by thieves

A group of burglars used bolt croppers and a crowbar to force their way into a UK pub stealing £2,000 of wine.

The Clock Warehouse, Derbyshire, was broken into shortly after midnight this morning, according to a report in the Derby Telegraph.

Manager Cheryl Green told the paper: “We have estimated that the retail value of what they have taken is something in the region of £2,000 which are costs that Marston’s, which owns the pub, will have to absorb.

“We are fortunate in that we are a managed house but, if this had happened at a smaller free house that is owned by an individual or a couple, then they would have to take a massive hit on this.

“At a time when the pub trade generally is struggling the last thing any of us need is to be burgled of our stock in this way.”

A police spokesman said: “This appears to have been a pre-planned break-in on a pub that was deliberately targeted because of what is inside.”
