Prosecco producer launches Chinese site
Congliano Valdobbiadene has launched a Chinese language website in an effort to capitalise on the growing popularity for Italian sparking wine in Asia.
The producer will be launching a Mandarin website to promote its Prosecco Superiore DOCG, produced in the hilly province of Treviso in the north east of Italy – an hour’s drive from Venice.
It is one of a very few DOCG-certified wines of Italy.
The Italian Spumante has gained popularity in Asia in recent years, particularly within China and Hong Kong, which Congliano Valdobbiadene said were the “most promising foreign markets for its development abroad.”
From 2010 to 2012, exports to this area increase by 78.9%.
A spokesperson for Congliano Valdobbiadene said: “In order to give the Chinese market the opportunity to get to know better its wine, the Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore Docg Consortium has launched its website in Chinese.
“Asian consumers and operators will have the chance to learn more about the history, culture and the beauty of the territory, which is also in the Tentative Lists to become a Unesco World Heritage Site.”
Prosecco sales in the UK have soared in recent years with the supermarket Co-Op reporting a 875% increase in sales over the 2013 festive season.
