New Brangelina rosé to go on sale
The 2013 vintage of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s Provence rosé is to go on sale tomorrow, with only those on the waiting list able to get hold of a bottle.
The first tranche of the 200,000-bottle production of Château Miraval 2013 is expected to go on sale at 9am (French time) tomorrow morning via the estate’s website, where those signed up to the waiting list will be given access to a six-bottle case.
The wine is made in collaboration with Marc Perrin, owner of Château de Beaucastel in the Rhône, and is distributed by the Perrin family.
In addition, a limited number of bottles will also go on sale via London-based fine wine merchant Berry Bros & Rudd, on its website.
The rosé, which blends Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault and Rolle, is expected to carry a similar retail price to the inaugural 2012 vintage, which sold for £18 a bottle.
Last March, the first 6,000 bottles of Miraval Rosé 2012 were snapped up within five hours of going on sale.
The wine went on to become the first rosé to appear in the Wine Spectator’s annual Top 100 list of the most exciting wines of the year, released last November.
The 2013 vintage has been described as boasting a “charmingly pretty” colour, with “soft fragrant roses” on the nose, “redcurrants, rosehips, wild raspberries and a dash of lime zest” on the palate” and “a grip of minerality” offering a “mouthwatering finish”.
Château Miraval 2013 will go on sale in shops and restaurants next month.
In addition to Miraval rosé, Pitt, Jolie and Perrin are planning a Provence red made from Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cabernet Franc, and are currently pinpointing the best spots in the Côteaux Varios and Côtes de Provence for planting.
The celebrity couple’s first red effort, made predominantly from Syrah, is due for release this summer, along with a barrel fermented white made from Rolle.
Brangelina bought the 500-hectare estate for a reported US$55m in 2008.
A Rose’ by any other name,
would not be as… sweet.
