De Bortoli takes operatic inspiration
De Bortoli has launched a pair of wines inspired by an opera closely associated with Yarra Valley-born 19th century superstar soprano Dame Nellie Melba.
The La Bohème “Pinot Gris and friends” and a Syrah/Gamay blend will officially launch in the UK on 13 March at the Independent Buyers Day tasting, a new London event which is focused entirely on the independent on- and off-trade sector.
The Pinot Gris “Act Three” comes from the 2013 vintage, described by De Bortoli as “a terrific aromatic season”, and incorporates a small proportion of Riesling, Gewürztraminer and Pinot Blanc into its blend.
The Syrah/Gamay blend behind “Act Four” comes from the 2012 vintage and is the result of a wild ferment and “occasional foot stomping”, before spending 10 months in 500-litre casks.
Both wines feature label designs inspired by the opera, which is set in Paris during the 1880s, carry an RRP of £13.99 and are being targeted at the UK on-trade and independent sector.
