Zachys announces ex-cellar Jadot sale

Vintages of Louis Jadot dating back to the 1950s are to go on sale in Hong Kong later this month.

Louis Jadot is the latest Burgundian producer to put an ex-cellar collection up for auction.

US house Zachys will conduct the sale this Thursday (16 January) at the JW Marriott in its pre-Chinese New Year auction.

David Wainwright, senior managing director for Zachys Asia commented: “This is a very, very rare and unique opportunity as many of these wines simply don’t exist outside of Jadot’s cellars in Beaune. We are both honoured and very excited to be offering these wines.”

Jadot, one of the oldest producers in the region, is releasing 100 lots with vintages dating back to the 1950s for the sale.

Highlights include: six bottles of 1959 Clos des Ursules (HK$8,500 – $14,000), six bottles of 1961 Bonnes Mares (HK$30,000-$50,000), one bottle of 1952 Chambertin (HK$12,000-$19,000), six bottles of 1953 Clos de la Roche (HK$24,000-$36,000), six bottles of 1982 Montrachet (HK$34,000-$60,000) and six bottles of 1982 Corton Charlemagne (HK$24,000-$38,000).

Fellow Burgundian producer Domaine Drouhin is also having an ex-cellar sale this year through Sotheby’s in New York.

Jadot has also announced that its new cellar door and boutique are open to the public at its base in Beaune.

The cellar is open for pre-reserved guests at select times during the week, while the shop and tasting room is open to all visitors.

President Pierre-Henry Gagey, who will be at the Hong Kong auction, said: “The wines available to taste and buy in our boutique represent an ever-changing selection from our diverse portfolio – there will be something to please every palate and every purse.

“This is a special space where the whole world can share our passion for wine and we are delighted to be able to receive visits from wine enthusiasts from around the globe.”
