A man who stole Champagne, vodka and a canoe has been handed a suspended sentence after pleading guilty.

A man who stole Champagne and a canoe has been handed a suspended sentence.

According to The Cornishman, Matthew Morris, 39, of Angarrack Mews in Grist Lane, Hayle, committed the string of thefts in October and November.

The crime spree saw him snatch a £550 canoe, a bottle of £33.78 vodka from a Co-op supermarket and a £32 bottle of Comte De Noiron champagne from Marks and Spencer over two weeks.

Morris was given an eight-week prison sentence suspended for 12 months and a six-month drug rehabilitation order to be completed in the next 12 months.

He was also ordered to pay back the cost of the alcohol stolen, £180 in compensation to the canoe’s owner and an £80 victim surcharge.
