WSET reveals shortlist for educator award

The Wine and Spirit Education Trust has announced the shortlist of organisations and individuals for the Riedel Trophy for the Educator of the Year Award.

The award is given for a significant contribution to WSET courses and qualifications

Included in the shortlist are two entries from China, one from the US, Spain, Australia and Belgium, and five from the UK.

The judging will take place early in 2014 and winner will be announced at the WSET’s annual Awards and Graduation Ceremony at the City of London’s Guildhall on 20 January.

The award is given for “a significant contribution to WSET courses and qualifications in the past year, with superlative results in WSET programmes, whilst demonstrating commitment and innovation in education.”

Last years winners were Adam Chase from Grape Experience in the US and Len Sexon from Laithwaite’s Wine in the UK.

The shortlist of eleven nominees for 2013 is below, in alphabetical order:

Commenting on the list, WSET chief executive Ian Harris said: “This is a strong list, encompassing programme providers of very different scales, operating in a variety of geographies and industry sectors.

Continuing he added, “All of the nominees, however, have achieved something significant over the past year to make them stand out.  I’m looking forward to the judging panel’s decision.”
