Reality TV star faces backlash over £480k bill
Made in Chelsea star, Spencer Matthews, has received a social media backlash after posting a picture on Twitter of a £488,000 bar bill.
Matthews posted the photograph with the caption “Shiiiiiiiiiiiit…”, although it is not clear whether the bill was his or someone else’s. The receipt showed that a total of £488,706.08 had been spent at the exclusive Mayfair club Morton’s, where the 25-year-old had been partying on Saturday night and into Sunday morning.
But after posting the photograph, Matthews received a backlash from followers and other Twitter users.
One tweeter responded to the photo by writing: “could’ve sent that off to the Philippines you self centered prick”, while another added: “Spencer matthews tweeted his bar bill today. I lost all faith in humanity.”
Other users continued the incredulity at Matthews’ spending, with one writing: “2 days after children in need… what an absolute pleb he is!!!!” and another wrote: “absolutely disgusting. I hope you are ashamed of yourself. People in Philippines are starving and homeless”.
Although there is no indication from the receipt if this is actually Matthews’ bill, if it’s a misprint or indeed what the money was spent on, if it is true it means the bill sets a new record for a night out. The bill is more than double the £203,000 spent by young financier Alex Hope during a night out in Liverpool last year.
