New Bordeaux wine bar opens in Shanghai
The Bordeaux Wine Council (CIVB) has opened its second “100% Bordeaux” wine bar in the Luwan district of Shanghai.

Named Burdigala 2, after the Roman name for Bordeaux, the bar is a sister to Burdigala Wine Bistro, which opened in Shanghai’s Jing district last May in a partnership between the CIVB and private investor Franck Boudot.
Aiming to make Bordeaux wines more accessible to Chinese consumers, both bars boast a Bordeaux-only wine list offering an array of wines from across the region’s 60 appellations at affordable price points.
Boudot threw a party to celebrate the opening of Burdigala 2
Taking in red, white, rosé, sweet and sparkling styles, many of producers represented at the bar are lesser-known châteaux.
Boudot is hoping the new bar will attract both Bordeaux producers and merchants looking to organise business meetings and tastings in Shanghai.
The CIVB plans to open ten Bordeaux-focused wine bars throughout the world on a franchise basis, including London, Berlin, Tokyo and Hong Kong.
Its next bar will open in New York at the Carlton hotel between Madison and 29th Avenue in collaboration with chef Laurent Manrique from Gers in South-West France.
The openings are part of the CIVB’s plan to increase the presence of the region in its key export markets.
