The Stowford Press’ ‘Bowl in One’ nationwide promotion that ran last year in 2000 pubs nationwide, was claimed by Stowford Press drinker Chris Newall, who spectacularly won the £50,000 cash prize. The Yorkshireman, 50, was set the task of hitting three stumps, then two stumps and then a single stump in three consecutive deliveries to win the cash prize. Newall pulled it off effortlessly as the 16,000-strong Nottingham crowd erupted. The cricket lover even drew the England squad out of their dressing room and onto their balcony with Graeme Swann leading the applause.

In the salubrious surroundings of Lincoln’s Inn, db joined family and friends of Charles Outhwaite QC and his wife Wendy for the launch of their sparkling wine, Ambriel. Neighbours to Nyetimber, the vineyards are in Pulborough, West Sussex, with the debut wine based on the 2010 vintage and made primarily from Chardonnay with support from Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier.
