Scottish MSP delighted at being refused a beer

Ruth Davidson, a member of the Scottish Parliament and leader of the Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party, has tweeted her delight at being unable to buy a beer, because she did not have any ID.

Davidson said she was delighted to be “knocked back”, adding that it had “made her week”.

The MSP was trying to buy a beer for her colleague David Mundell, the Conservative MP for Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale and Tweeddale, at Bruce Springsteen’s concert in Glasgow on Tuesday night, but was refused service by a member of the bar staff at the Hampden Park venue.

Davidson tweeted: “Brilliantly, I got kb’d for not having ID trying to buy Mundell a beer at the Springsteen gig. He’s 51. I’m clearly #34goingon17 #underage”.

The tweet saw a number of responses including one from Labour’s defence spokesman Jim Murphy, who referenced next year’s Scottish referendum on independence by writing, “@RuthDavidsonMSP Don’t worry in the referendum it’s votes at 16 so you should be OK.”

Scottish crime writer Ian Rankin tweeted: “Having a wee smile that the leader of the Conservatives in Scotland got refused alcohol at tonight’s Springsteen gig for having no ID…”. Rankin then added: “(That’s the excuse they gave her anyway…) (Sorry, Ruth!)”.
