Lafite leads morning’s releases
Château Lafite has released its 2012 with a 21% cut on last year’s price as the Bordeaux en primeur campaign picks up.
The Pauillac first growth has released at €330-€335 p/b ex-négociant. Last year it came out at €420 p/b.
Although the cut puts the wine just above the €300p/b bracket that Liv-ex was expecting, it is still 154% above its 2008 price of €130p/b.
Fellow first Mouton-Rothschild released last week at €240p/b which, at £2,800 a case, made it the cheapest vintage on offer and it has, apparently, been well received.
Lafite’s price makes it by far the cheapest on the market and with interest in the estate building again very slightly it will be interesting to hear how it performs.
Also out this morning is Pomerol property l’Evangile which has not changed its pricing at all on 2011 and is €100p/b ex-négociant. It is still 67% above its 2008 price of €60p/b.
Another Right Bank château, Valandraud in Saint-Emilion, also released today with a substantial 46% cut down to €78p/b.
Meanwhile, Sociando-Mallet cut its prices almost back to 2008 levels with a 6% cut on 2011’s €20.4 to €19.2 p/b ex-négociant.
