Rum ambassador to build pop-up bar in Antarctica
Global rum ambassador, Ian Burrell, is to build a pop-up rum shack in Antarctica to raise money for Wine to Water.
Setting out on 25 March, Burrell will be travelling 25,000 miles to the icy continent to serve rum cocktails to the 40 strong expedition team at the South Pole.
In doing so he will be raising money for the Wine to Water charity, which provides people around the world with clean drinking water.
It is estimated that around one billion people lack access to uncontaminated water and a further 2.5bn are in need of improved sanitation.
Burrell said: “Having spent the last 10 years spreading the gospel of rum throughout the world, visiting Antarctica seemed like the next natural step to bring rum to an entirely new destination and audience.
“I am thrilled to be travelling with an expedition of 40 fellow adventurers to build the local community their very own pop up rum shack and for a fantastic cause. All money raised will go towards the Wine to Water campaign that will ultimately transform people’s lives by providing running clean water and raising the global water crisis.”
