Joël Robuchon to get his own beer from Sapporo
The world-renowned chef Joël Robuchon is teaming up with Japanese brewery Sapporo on a new beer.
The Yebishu beer is set to launch on 20 February 2013 and will be offered at Robuchon’s restaurants in Japan as well as a few in other countries.
Robuchon currently owns restaurants in Tokyo, London and Las Vegas as well as several other cities around the world. His restaurants have a total of 28 Michelin stars between them, the most of any chef in the world.
Yukari Sakamoto, who is an expert in the Japanese distilled drink Shochu, said that Robuchon and Sapporo have collaborated to create a beer that can specifically be paired with French food, adding that the red can design matches the interior of Robuchon’s l’Atelier restaurants.
The new beer, which is made with malt from the Champagne region, is not the first collaboration between a top chef and a brewery. Ferran Adrià of El Bulli worked with Barcelona brewery Estrella to create another food-friendly beer, called Inedit.
