Harrods sells Yquem collection for £1m
Harrods is selling a collection of Chateau d’Yquem comprising vintages from 1890 to 2009 with a price tag of £1 million.
The set of Sauternes totals 109 bottles and has been assembled over three decades by a Parisian collector and close friend of Château d’Yquem’s previous owners – the Lur-Saluces family.
On average, only 65,000 bottles are produced by the château each year, although in certain vintages no Yquem is released – such as vintages 1910, 1915, 1930, 1951, 1952, 1964, 1972, 1974, and 1992.
In 2010, Christie’s sold a collection of 128 Yquem vintages – along with 40 magnums – in Hong Kong for over US$1m.
The range included vintages from 1825 to 2001.
Meanwhile, in 2007, The Antique Wine Company sold an Yquem collection comprising every vintage produced by the chateau from 1860 to 2003.
Totalling 135 bottles, the collection sold for £775,000.
