Viña Undurraga appoints Gonzalez Byass as UK distributor
Maipo Valley winery Viña Undurraga, has announced it will be appointing Gonzalez Byass as its exclusive UK distributor from 1 March 2013.
Known as a Port and Sherry distributor Gonzalez Byass UK has developed its wine portfolio with the addition of brands such as Wirra Wirra from South Australia, Jackson Estate from New Zealand.
Undurraga is located in Talagante, in the heart of the Maipo Valley, which is just over 20 miles outside of Santiago and currently exports its wines to more than 70 countries worldwide
Ernesto Müller, General Manager of Viña Undurraga said the fit between Gonzalez Byass and Undurraga seemed a natural one.
He said: “Our focus is on making quality wines with constant innovation, as demonstrated by the TH Series, which has led to international recognition for our winery. We share this philosophy with Gonzalez Byass, who have been successful in building their premium wine business despite the current challenges in the market. We believe that Gonzalez Byass will take the Undurraga brand to the next stage of development in the UK.”
Martin Skelton, Managing Director of Gonzalez Byass UK, added: “This is really exciting and another fantastic development for our company; Undurraga joins an international portfolio of wines, including Quinta do Noval, Wirra Wirra and Jackson Estate.
“Undurraga is one of the premium Chilean brands and it has just been voted ‘Winery of the Year’ by the Wines of Chile Association. Its ‘TH Series’ of varietal wines is setting the benchmark for premium Chilean wine; I hope they will be generous with their allocations to the UK market.”
I am sure Unduragga will be in good hands at Gonzalez Byass UK. What a positive move for them. I remember someone passing me a bottle about 16 years ago or more and I was fairly new to the wine trade but thought it was very promising. As they said “We believe that Gonzalez Byass will take the Undurraga brand to the next stage of development in the UK.” Good for them!
Both Unduragga and Gonzalez Byass are good fit for each other. Especially with a back ground of a Spanish portfolio, great wine importer in UK.
