The week in pictures

Angela Hartnett, head chef of Michelin-starred Mayfair restaurant Murano, and head sommelier Marc-Andréa Lévy treated a lucky group of wine writers, including db, to a preview of Hartnett’s seasonal Krug menu, featuring scallop ceviche, king prawn ravioli, rose veal and vintage Krug on tap.

Continuing with the fizz theme, db also found time to pop into the shabby chic Champagne & Fromage in Covent Garden, owned by the team behind UK-based grower Champagne importer French Bubbles. We can thoroughly recommend the molten Camembert stuffed with nuts to ward off the winter chill.

Things took a turn from the spooky when we ventured into the Old Vic Tunnels for a Day of the Dead fiesta hosted by Mexican street food favourite Wahaca. In between Margaritas, face painting and a set from acoustic guitarist duo Rodrigo y Gabriella, we fleetingly spotted this spectral figure.

We also clocked this colourful couple taking in some of the spooky artwork deep inside the tunnels.

This week saw the opening of yet another London steak house – MASH (standing for Modern American Steak House). A Danish concept, on entry, we spotted this impressive wine wall featuring a spattering of California “cult” wines, Super Tuscans, DRC, Mouton Rothschild and Pétrus.

This cheeky monkey was caught red handed trying to crack open this bottle of wine outside the University of Natural Sciences in Malaysia.

Polo playing Cheval des Andes winemaker Nicolas Audebert jetted into London from Argentina to show db his latest vintage of Cheval des Andes – 2007.

Olmeca Tequila provided the libations at the Day of the Dead fiesta in the Old Vic Tunnels, including the Paloma and the Mexican Mule.

Renowned travel writer Lucia van der Post discusses the 2012 vintage in England with Steven Spurrier, wine writer and owner of Bride Valley Vineyard in Dorset, which is due to release its first vintage next year, during the newly launched Krug seasonal lunch at Angela Hartnett’s Murano in Mayfair.

The International Panel and attendees at the tasting held at Viña Seña’s official opening ceremony of its Biodynamic Centre, located in the spectacular vineyards in Chile.

The advertising campaign for ZEO, a new unalcoholic drink based on a blend of botanicals, kicks off at various locations across London.
