Santa Rita to host South American wine workshop

Santa Rita Estates has unveiled plans for its South American wine workshops, which will take place in London in January 2013.

The workshops are part of Santa Rita Estates’ three-year South American wine educational programme plan.

The workshops are targeted at press, independent merchants, wine educators, buyers and the on-trade and aim to “educate the trade in the quality and diversity South American wines have to offer”.

The all-day event will be repeated over two days on Tuesday, 15 January and Wednesday, 16 January and will be hosted by chairmen Peter Richards MW and Tim Atkin MW. Speakers include oenologist Brian Croser, Chilean author and journalist Patricio Tapia along with Santa Rita winemakers Andrés Ilabaca and Cecilia Torres, Carmen winemaker Sebastián Labbé and Doña Paula winemaker Edgardo del Pópolo.

UK & Ireland Commercial Director Terry Pennington said: “Now more than ever before is there a need to educate the trade in the innovation, range of styles and exceptional attributes that Chilean and Argentinian wines have to offer.”

Each day will feature two main workshops, which will “explore innovation within the coastal climate wines of Chile and an in-depth study of the effects of terroir in the Uco Valley in Argentina, focusing on Gualtallary.”

Additional shorter sessions will also take place covering sustainability and the ageing potential of South American wines.

The workshops take place at 30 Euston Square, London, NW1 on 15 & 16 January, to register email caroline@cmpark.co.uk or info@santaritaestateseurope.com or telephone 07793 367501.

  1. Not a very good pick of dates, since it excludes all the MW students who will be attending the seminar in Rust during that week. A week earlier would have had at least one extra attendant!

  2. Thanks for your input Bernardo but I can’t tell you how difficult it is getting a date in London in January that doesn’t clash with something!
