31 Days of Riesling winners announced
Wines of Germany has announced the on- and off-trade winners of this year’s 31 Days of German Riesling.
The initiative followed on from last year’s shorter campaign, and was the first time that such a sustained period to promote German Riesling had been attempted in the UK.
Throughout July, 46 wine bars and restaurants as well as independent retailers across the country took part in promoting German wines through tastings and special offers.
Kensington Wine Rooms was declared the winner of the on-trade category, with The Jugged Hare judged as the runner-up.
The winning retailer was Mill Hill Wines in London, while the Oxford Wine Company was runner-up.
Monika Reule, CEO of the German Wine Institute, said: “German Riesling should be a natural choice for consumers these days, given its naturally lower alcohol levels and light, refreshing, food-friendly styles.
“Both retailers and restaurants demonstrated an incredible amount of initiative to spread the word about German Riesling during the 31 days and we are confident now more than ever that UK consumers are ready to get tasting German wine!”
The winners will get an all expenses paid trip to Germany and £500 to put towards new German listings.
