The Lurtons come en masse to London

The Lurtons are coming to London in December to show wines from all their properties at their first UK tasting as a group.

The 13 members of the Lurton family who work in the wine trade

The famous winemaking family has worked together under the banner Lurton du Vin since 2009, when Jacques Lurton united his brothers and cousins in an effort to promote the Lurton name.

The tasting will see as many as 13 members of the Lurton family show their wines at London’s RAC club on 10 December, following a tasting held by them last year in New York and before that, in France.

Speaking to the drinks business, group founder Jacques Lurton said that the family had chosen to visit London this year because of the concentration of wine press in the UK.

“We want to communicate our name,” he said, recalling that the group was established to promote “the Lurton name as a brand.”

He stressed that although other famous wine families exist, from Antinori, Gallo, Mondavi or Torres, there is no other where so many members operate within the same sector, but run different businesses.

Indeed, today, 17 members of the Lurton family work in the wine trade in Bordeaux as well as southern France, Portugal, Spain, Argentina, Chile, Australia and South Africa.

Jacques explained that four Lurtons are from his father’s generation and 13 from his, while the next generation will be even larger.

“The next generation will be even more, and I do believe it could be double the number of people we are today,” he said.

On the following page are the members of the Lurton family who will be present at the tasting in London and the wines they will be showing.

As for next year, Jacques said the group were considering holding a similar tasting in Hong Kong.
