Record sum raised in Cognac auction

The annual La Part des Anges auction in Cognac has raised a record amount for charity.

This year’s auction – held on 20 September – raised €136,800 (£108,500), with rare lots going under the hammer at Château Chesnel in Cherves-Richemont.

Around 650 people were thought to have attended, bidding for lots such as Hine’s Monnet Extra Capiello Collector, a Frapin Baccarat Aigle Royal and Rémy Martin Coupe Historique Extra Porcelaine all going under the hammer.

A Martell Coffret Martell Cordon Bleu – Edition du Centenaire came out on top at €21,000, followed by lots from Hennessy, a Réserve Spèciale (€14,000), and Prince Hubert de Polignac 888 Trunk (€10,500).

During the evening several awards were also distributed. Ann Tuennerman, founder of “Tales of the Cocktail” in New Orleans, was named “Cognac Personality of the Year”, and US writer David Wondrich was named “Cognac Writer of the Year”.
