Portugal honours Jancis Robinson
Jancis Robinson MW has been awarded the Commendador do Ordem do Mérito Empresarial in recognition of her services to Portuguese wine.
Jancis Robinson MW receives her award from the Portuguese ambassador
Robinson was presented with a medal by Portuguese ambassador Dr Joao da Vallera during a private event held earlier this week at his London residence.
Receiving the award, Robinson said: “All my wine writing life I have felt very fond of Portuguese wines and have championed them. I think it’s high time we got rid of any idea that Portuguese wine has to be a niche product or an inexpensive product; the evidence is there that Portugal is producing some wonderful wines.”
Among those present at the ceremony was Wines of Portugal marketing director Nuno Vale, who commented: “Jancis fully deserves this honour She is a staunch advocator of our country and over the years has done much to educate and enthuse people about our wines. I would like to pass on our sincere thanks for what she has achieved.”
