Eden Valley Rieslings show their bottle

Winemakers in the Eden Valley have demonstrated their conviction of the high quality potential of Rieslings from the region by collaborating to produce a proprietary Eden Valley Riesling bottle.

A South Australian first, the relief design features the Eden Valley name above contoured vine rows wrapping around rolling hills on a traditional antique green Riesling bottle. The proprietary bottle is designed to signify the quality and provenance of Riesling from the region.

Eden Valley is home to some of the oldest vineyards in the world, some of which date back to the mid 19th century. Grape growers in the region have long held the belief that Riesling is the grape most suited to the region’s high altitude and cool climate.

The bottle was first launched in 2011, but the 12 wineries collaborating in the project will present wines from the 2012 vintage in the proprietary bottle at the Spring Riesling Tasting at the Eden Valley Institute on Sunday 16 September, which represents the traditional September launch of new vintage white wines.

The collective wineries developed the bottle in partnership with Vinpac International, with the support of the Barossa Grape & Wine Association. Riesling’s from the 2012 vintage in the proprietary bottle will now be released into the national retail and direct sales markets.

Fifth generation Eden Valley winemaker Stephen Henschke, who was one of the first to sign up for the proprietary bottle, commented, “Eden Valley has a rich winemaking history dating back to 1847 so it’s only fitting we continue to support the message and encourage our fellow Riesling winemakers to join the cause.”
