Calon-Ségur prices climbing
Prices of Calon-Ségur have begun to climb as trade in back vintages increases.
Following the death of Denise Capbern-Gasqueton, the Saint-Estèphe property was sold earlier this year to insurance firm Suravenir and Jean-François Moueix.
Liv-ex reported that trading picked up following the announcement as buyers suspected price rises on future vintages.
Already, a vintage such as the 2008, which was trading for £370 a case back in April, has reached £480.
Liv-ex data shows that the property has been riding high for sometime and even mirrored the course of the Bordeaux 500.
That is until December last year when the 500 began to slow down and Calon Ségur defied the market trend and continued to climb.
August saw a particularly sharp climb following again following a lull over the late spring and summer.
The index pointed out that although many vintages remain under £50 a bottle, the connection with Moueix will likely push prices higher still and “its future releases may well not be so affordable”.
