Week in pictures

Bottles clasped to hands in a surreal Lynchian lair at new fine wine emporium Hedonism Wines, which opened today in London’s Mayfair.

db’s trusty intern Phoebe Brookes ponders over the price tags of some of the fine wines on offer at Hedonism Wines.

The quirkily designed shop features this arresting glass installation draping chandelier-like from the ceiling.

db’s editor Patrick Schmitt shares a glass with Hedonism’s head buyer Alistair Viner, previously head wine and spirits buyer for Harrods.

In a secret cellar at Hedonism, db spotted the shop’s most expensive wine on offer – Château d’Yquem 1811, yours for just under £100,000.

The press launch of Hedonism Wines coincided with the UK launch of the Penfolds Ampoule – one of only twelve in the world went on sale at Hedonism today for £120,000 with a promise that winemaker Peter Gago will fly anywhere around the globe to open it for its owner.

When Oz met Roz: Rozza Barton of R&R Teamwork shares a joke with Oz Clarke at the Champagne Henri Giraud Garden launch at Amuse Bouche in Parsons Green. Oz revealed to db that during his days as a thesp, he starred in the inaugural Superman film as the first man Superman ever arrested.

It’s just not cricket! England cricketers Ian Bell and Tim Bresnan chill out at the Oval with a bottle of Westons Cider.

Tally-ho! Intrepid TV presenter Anneka Rice launches the Talisker Whisky Challenge 2013 at Osbourne House in the Isle of Wight.

Staff at indie brewer Bath Ales celebrate the 10 millionth bottle of flagship brew Gem, which popped off the line this week.

That’s one way of pulling in the punters…

In honour of our Top 10 red trousers in the wine trade, db’s Lucy Shaw & Rupert Millar thought it only right to flaunt their scarlet pins in the office this week.

Simon Legge, formerly of Brown-Forman, wears his pantalon rouge with pride, though looks a little lost in this photo sent in by Kate Sweet at the Fetzer Garden at the Chelsea Flower Show.

Injecting a welcome dose of glamour into the wine world, the lovely Rosie (left) and Rachel of Proven Communications both happened to be sporting red trousers the day our Top 10 feature went live. Perhaps struck with scarlet fever, they decided to buy a third pair during their lunch break.

And finally… last week we brought you news that wine milkshakes had gone on sale at select venues of The Counter (@counterburger) restaurant in LA, and now, courtesy of @vinealvixen, we bring you pictorial evidence of the wines inside – Jack Hammer Pinot Noir and Menage a Trois, a Chardonnay/Muscat/Chenin Blanc blend.

I think you will find that should read ON the Isle of Wight 😀

Mmm, think this may owe its inspiration to Max Bordeaux, non?
