Relation of “Sideways winery” files for bankruptcy
California’s Alma Rosa Winery, whose sister winery featured in the movie Sideways, has filed for bankruptcy.
The winery, owned by Richard Sanford, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last week.
Alma Rosa is Richard Sanford’s third winery – his second is probably familiar to wine lovers and movie buffs alike. Sanford Winery was featured as the first stop in the 2004 movie Sideways.
It’s not clear what Chapter 11 (which usually indicates a planned restructuring rather than liquidation) means for the winery and its wines, which include several Pinot Noirs, Pinot Grises, Pinot Blancs, a Chardonnay and a Pinot Noir rose.
