Laithwaite’s opens pop-up during Olympics
Laithwaite’s Wine is to open a pop-up shop in London’s Borough Market as it prepares to close its flagship store for the duration of the Olympics.
The planned closure will allow official Olympics sponsors to occupy the Vinopolis site throughout the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Tony Laithwaite, chairman of Laithwaite’s Wine said, “I’m so glad we’ll be able to keep serving our customers around Borough Market in a smashing pop-up shop beside Southwark Cathedral, whilst our Arch is doing Olympic duty during July and August!”
The pop-up store will be open from 9 July until 19 August when Laithwaite’s will re-open The Arch with an improved customer experience that will include a programme of events designed to emphasis the merchant’s passion for wine.
Keith Davis, managing director of Borough Market added, “Borough Market is delighted to welcome Laithwaite’s to their temporary home with us this summer and with the market opening its doors seven days a week throughout the Olympic and Paralympic periods, we’re looking forward to an exciting summer for us all”.
Laithwaite’s Wine has also announced that Emma Roberts will take on the newly created role of group fine wine director.
Emma is currently buying director at Averys of Bristol, the wine merchant business acquired by Tony Laithwaite in 2001. Emma joined Averys over 15 years ago and took on her first buyer’s role in 2001
