Recession hits Roussillon
Roussillon restaurant in London has become one of the most high profile victims of the tough economic climate, closing its doors this month after 14 years.
The Pimlico restaurant was opened in 1998 by chef patron Alexis Gauthier. Having held a Michelin star for 10 years, it lost the accolade when Gauthier left in 2010 to set up a new venture, Gauthier Soho.
Since Gauthier’s departure, Roussillon has seen two head chefs with Michelin-starred backgrounds take the reins in quick succession, with Shane Hughes replacing Dan Gill in October 2011.

A message on the restaurant’s reservation line said: “Due to the economic climate, Roussillon is now closed as of 1 June 2012. We would like to thank all of the customers for their support and custom over the years.”
As recently as this May, the drinks business visited Roussillon as part of its “db eats” review series, concluding: “Though unquestionably pleasant, Roussillon is lacking that all-important sparkle ignited and kept aflame by Gauthier. While the food is consistently good, it’s bereft of the flair and playfulness that once made it great.”
