The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee inspired drinks

Moët & Chandon Diamond Jubilee Cuvee

Moët & Chandon has toasted their relationship with the Queen by producing an exclusive Diamond Jubilee Cuvee. The Champagne has held the Royal Warrant since Queen Victoria recognised the quality of the Champagnes in 1893.  This recognition was reaffirmed in 1955 when Moët & Chandon was granted the Royal Warrant by HM Queen Elizabeth II, which has been maintained over the last fifty seven years.

While Moët & Chandon created exclusive cuvees for both the Silver and Golden Jubilee celebrations, on this occasion the Royal Household has given approval for the bottles to be sold. Diamond Jubilee bottles of Moët & Chandon Impérial will be available to purchase from various stores including Waitrose, Fortnum & Mason, Selfridges, Harvey Nichols, Harrods and Berry Brothers & Rudd.

Jo Thornton, Managing Director of Moët Hennessy UK said, “Moët & Chandon is honoured to toast HM Queen Elizabeth’s remarkable reign with exclusive labels to commemorate and celebrate the Diamond Jubilee”. The Moët & Chandon Diamond Jubilee Cuvee is available from May 2012.

The Champagne will also be served at the Queen’s Jubilee picnic.

Laphroaig Diamond Jubilee commemorative edition

To celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s 60th year on the throne, Islay single malt whisky Laphroaig, distributed by Maxxium UK, is launching a special Diamond Jubilee commemorative edition.  Bearing Prince Charles’ Royal Warrant, the 3,000 Jubilee cartons and bottles are set to become collector’s items.  Laphroaig has also pledged to make a donation of £3000 to The Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust (QEST).

Each limited edition carton will display that it is only one of three thousand in existence and will contain the Double Gold Medal winning Laphroaig 18 Year Old single malt (48% abv).  Bright gold in colour, the Laphroaig 18 Year Old offers a toffee sweet flavour, accompanied by its trademark peat smoke taste. Laphroaig’s Diamond Jubilee bottling is especially fitting given their Royal Warrant, appointed personally by HRH Prince Charles when he visited the distillery in 1994.  He also returned again in 2008 as part of his own 60th birthday celebrations.

Distillery manager John Campbell said; “With Laphroaig’s royal connection to HRH Prince Charles, and as our most famous patron, we thought it only right to create a special pack to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s ascension to the throne. As proud bearers of a royal warrant Laphroaig is delighted that our 18 Year Old has become part of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations in its beautifully designed, premium Jubilee packaging.”

 Special edition Jubilee Cider

As the Queen marks her Diamond Jubilee this year, Bridge Farm Cider join the celebrations by marking their own 25th year of production by releasing a special edition Jubilee Cider dedicated to Her Majesty’s companion Cider. Cider is one of three Dorgis of the Royal Household. Alongside Cider, Vulcan and Candy are Willow, Monty and Holly, the three Corgis.

The label has also been created to represent British graphic design at the time of Her Majesty’s coronation in 1953. The Queen made visit to Somerset on the 2nd of May 2012.

Diamond Reign Jubilee ale

Castle Rock Brewery in Nottingham has brewed the Diamond Reign Jubilee ale from Maris Otter barley, yeast, hops and local water.

Head brewer, Adrian Redgrove, said: “I invite everyone to raise a glass of Diamond Reign and join us in cheering our noble monarch’s 60 years of devoted and unwavering service.”

The brewery will first produce 60 collectors’ bottles of the Diamond Reign Jubilee ale. These first bottles will be decanted from the first brew, thus creating a limited commemorative edition of the ale – one for each year of the present Queen’s reign.

The ale will then go on general sale in pubs and supermarkets in May. The brewery has a tradition in making special royal ales as they brewed Kiss Me Kate to mark the wedding of Prince William to Kate Middleton last year. “In some ways, we think of ourselves as the ‘unofficial brewer for Royal occasions’,” said managing director, Colin Wilde.

“And it’s fascinating, that despite the noisy views of some, we know that the vast majority of beer lovers like an excuse for a party. Here’s to them and Her Majesty”.

English fizz for jubilee

Asda has strengthened its wine range with the addition of two English wines for the first time in several years.

The Three Choirs Regalia 2011 has been produced exclusively for the supermarket by Three Choirs vineyard in Gloucestershire and is the result of a close collaboration between the Three Choirs winemaker, Martin Fowke, Asda Wine Selector Katie Thompson and Asda’s Master of Wine, Philippa Carr.

The wine, available from the 28 May and priced at £7.30 (on rollback to £6.00 from 31st May to 14th June), is made from a blend of Madeleine Angevine, Phoenix, Schonberger, Siegerrebe and Seyval Blanc grapes, all grown in Three Choirs’ 75 acre vineyard in the Gloucestershire countryside. Three Choirs is one of England’s leading single estate vineyards and winner of the English Wine Producers’ winemaker of the year in 2008.

Produced from hand-picked vines, the wine is light, delicate and crisp, with flavours of elderflower and citrus.

To further bolster its English wine selection around the Jubilee, Asda is also adding Chapel Down Vintage Reserve Brut to its range for a limited period, available to buy in Asda from 31 May to 14 June, priced at £15.

Asda’s wine selector, Katie Thompson, says:  “We are delighted to be working with Three Choirs vineyard as this lovely English wine offers our customers something new and exciting to try. In line with the 2012 Diamond Jubilee celebrations, the silver sleeve features an explosion of the traditional red, white and blue colours of the Union Jack along with diamond and crown motifs that reflect the feel of the planned festivities.

Replacing the Lambrini Original labels on the 75cl bottles, the limited edition sleeve aims to pay tribute to the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and create on shelf stand out for the brand.

Lorna Tweed, Brand Manager for Lambrini, said: “As an iconic British brand, the launch of the limited edition sleeve was an exciting and perfect choice for the brand. Last year we were overwhelmed by the response from our fans on Facebook when we trialled a ‘royal theme’ during the Royal Wedding.”

West Country cider

A limited edition West Country cider commissioned by the Royal Bath and West Society will only be available to buy at the ever popular Orchard & Cider Pavilion just a few days before the formal Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

Dr Jane Guise, chief executive of the Royal Bath and West Society said: “Her Majesty is our Patron and as we are an agricultural society representing the best of the West Country we thought the perfect presentation would be to produce a top quality cider to mark such a special occasion just after our own summer celebration.”

Lord Lieutenant of Somerset, Lady Gass, will deliver a few bottles to Buckingham Palace and other Royal residences will receive deliveries:  it is known that at least one Prince is a confirmed cider fan. One or two more are intended for presentation to Downing Street and at Westminster where members of the Parliamentary Cider Group are stalwart supporters of the industry.

Barry Darnell, Creative Director at Analogue, said: “This is both an exciting and fun brand to work with! Their nod to history and playful nature allowed us to create a fantastic extension of their brand, which in-turn caught the eye of high-end retailer Harvey Nichols.”
