Organic agave nectar to meet skinny cocktail demand

Funkin is set to launch a 100% organic Agave Nectar, to meet the increasing demand for skinny cocktails across the UK on-trade.

“There is a new understanding of making cocktails amongst bartenders and part of that is an obvious evolution of sweeteners, which Funkin Agave Nectar caters for,” said mixologist Ben Reed at the launch.

“This organic Agave is designed to not make a huge impact on the cocktail, but instead of give the full flavour in a more healthier way.”

Funkin Agave Nectar is designed specifically for use in cocktails and long drinks and contains 40% fewer calories per serve than standard sugar syrup and is a low GI sweetener.

It’s derived from Mexican blue agave plants and has low viscosity, which allows it to pour consistently from the bottle and speed-pour and dissolve quickly in cold liquids.

The Funkin syrups also benefit from new packaging, designed specifically with bartenders in mind.

“If you shave 5 seconds off per drink by using this easy pour packaging then over a night it means a bartender could make money drinks and in turn more money,” stated Reed.

Agave Nectar is available alongside Funkin’s five-strong range of syrups, including two new flavours, Mint and Vanilla and existing flavours, Grenadine, Passion Fruit and Sugar Cane. Funkin Mint and Vanilla syrups are two of the most popular syrups in the on-trade.

Funkin CEO Andrew King added, “Funkin Agave Nectar has been developed in response to calls from bartenders to enhance drinks menus with a skinny offering. Our quest for quality and consistency is paramount and following extensive tests across different agave varieties, we selected the organic Mexican blue agave because it has the right balance of colour, flavour, viscosity and sweetness, best suited to making interesting and exciting drinks.
