Auction house unveils own-label Champagne
Sotheby’s has launched its own Champagne for serving at events worldwide and selling in the US.
The auction house’s own label will be available for sale online as well as in its New York shop, which is based in the lobby of its US headquarters at 1334 York Avenue on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.
The Champagne is made by R&L Legras and comes in bottles and magnums with a price of US$29.95 and $69.95 for the respective formats.
The Champagne supplier R&L Legras was founded in 1808 and is based in Chouilly, the most northerly village of the Côte des Blancs.
The house is currently run by Julien Barbier and makes exclusive labels for a handful of top Parisian restaurants, such as La Tour d’Argent, Guy Savoy, and Ledoyen.
The Sotheby’s Champagne is made from 100% Grand Cru Chardonnay from vineyards in Chouilly.
“We will be serving it at Sotheby’s events in New York, London and Hong Kong and I will also be drinking many bottles at home too,” commented Jamie Ritchie, CEO of Sotheby’s Wine in the US and Asia.
“I have been enjoying R&L Legras Champagnes for over 20 years and am delighted that Julien Barbier agreed to produce Sotheby’s Champagne for us,” he added.
