Supplier comparison site promises savings
A new market comparison website has been launched for the on-trade, allowing pubs and restaurants to get the best deal from suppliers.
Free to use service www.drinkswholesaler.co.uk is offering to save businesses money or give them £50.
On-trade managers fill in an online form about what they purchase, how often they order and how much they pay. The website then contacts all registered suppliers in the area and forwards the top five quotes for the outlet to choose from. The process does not involve sharing contact details with any third parties.
James Smithfield, commercial director of drinkswholesaler.co.uk, explained the benefits of his service, saying: “Many outlets are dealing with a decline in sales, this has meant that owner operators are often doing more of the day to day work themselves to drive down costs, this gives them less time to manage their business.
“They can log on to the site at any time that’s convenient, complete details of what they buy and we do the rest.”
In addition to the convenience factor, Smithfield promoted the potential savings generated by the website’s tailor-made approach. “We get bespoke quotes from the suppliers based on specific products and volumes and because of this we’re so confident we can save customers money, that if we don’t, we’ll give them £50,” he promised.
Smithfield also pointed out the benefits of this service for wholesalers by connecting them with new customers. “Suppliers spend a lot of time prospecting for new business, which can be time consuming, expensive and often fruitless,” he remarked, adding: “Drinkswholesaler.co.uk puts them in touch with customers who are actively seeking new suppliers.”
Suppliers can register for free with the service and are only charged if the website passes on their quote to the outlet. Interested suppliers should contact suppliers@drinkswholesaler.co.uk for more information.
The service is also available off-line. By calling 0845 400 1841, restaurants and bars can give their requirements over the phone and receive quotes either by email, phone or fax.
Nice idea but are we not moving into the price of baked beans territory.
There is more to a wine and therefore the price it becomes, perhaps one tastes bettter from the same region therefore commanding a higher price as it genuinely costs more…………
Also quality of service has a cost counter……..
