Codorníu taps into sparkling wine surge
Grupo Codorníu has launched a blanc de noirs addition to its Anna de Codorníu range.
The pale pink, 100% Pinot Noir, traditional method sparkling wine will be the first Cava to be listed at Searcys Champagne bars, where it will be available from March.
Describing this latest launch by Codorníu as offering “affordable luxury and innovation”, Searcys’ concept development manager, Michelle Cartwright, said: “We pride ourselves in having the most extensive list of traditional method sparkling wine at Searcys and we are delighted to include Cava in our diverse range.”
Carolyn d’Aguilar, Codorníu brand manager, pointed to a Wine Intelligence report from the end of last year, which revealed that Cava is now “in second position as the most widely consumed sparkling wine on a regular basis.”
Bucking the wider trend for wine, the report showed that sparkling wine consumption in the UK had increased by two thirds over the past four years to reach 10 million cases in 2010.
Highlighting that “Cordoníu has the oldest and largest plantings of Pinot Noir in Spain,” Aguilar concluded: “We are very excited and proud to be present in a key venue such as Searcys, and to be the first Cava brand ever listed is a great recognition of our expertise.”
