German chancellor gets bathed in beer
Angela Merkel was soaked in lager last week during an Ash Wednesday event in Demmin, Germany.
The German chancellor showed remarkable composure when a waiter, known as Martin D, tipped five glasses of beer down her back, claiming he was pushed from behind.
The 21-year-old waiter was asked to step in and serve Merkel as a colleague was apparently too nervous to bring the drinks.
As he leant forward to put a lager down on the table in front of the chancellor, he titled the tray in his left hand, unbalancing the remaining beers, which fell onto Merkel’s back.
