IWSC TROPHY FOR SAUVIGNON BLANC

CONO SUR 20 BARRELS LIMITED EDITION SAUVIGNON BLANC 2010

VIÑA CONO SUR

CHILE
Rich, limpid golden green. Mouth-watering fresh aromas expressing celery leaf and green capsicum, pure and with almost sculptural definition. The palate is bold, broad and round. Lively and refreshing mouthfeel with vibrant acidity and impressive flavour delivery, salty yet off dry and a savoury, long finish.

IWSC TROPHY FOR CHENIN BLANC

KANU KCB CHENIN BLANC 2007

KANU VINEYARDS

SOUTH AFRICA

Pale green/gold. Attractive nose with citrus and oak with vanilla side notes. Surprisingly rich in the mouth with tangy touch and deep-dried apricot flavour along with concentrated citrus and more vanilla. Seemingly sweet yet great fresh acidity to balance. Decidedly dry finish. Interesting wine!

IWSC TROPHY FOR SEMILLON

MCGUIGAN BIN 9000 SEMILLON 2006

AUSTRALIAN VINTAGE

AUSTRALIA
Straw yellow in colour, glowing and bright. Rye toast and grated lime zest entice on the nose. A bright acid clench in the mouth brings saliva racing and seriously encourages the appetite, the flavours are pure and extraordinarily dense for such a light wine, surprising again with its long, lingering finish. Why is it that Hunter can produce such exceptionally individual wines from Semillon that cannot by copied anywhere in the world?

MISSION HILL TROPHY FOR CHARDONNAY

SPIER PRIVATE COLLECTION CHARDONNAY 2009

SPIER WINES

SOUTH AFRICA
Light green gold. Delicate nose with light nuances of lees, lime, apricot and some smoky notes. Builds up steam with some time in the glass when the oak begins to show along with butterscotch and barley sugar. All on show again in the mouth.
Good texture and slow flow distributing the flavours in modulated, even manner. Great balance and super combination on the whole.

LONDON INTERNATIONAL WINE FAIR TROPHY FOR SINGLE VINEYARD WHITE WINE

TWO SISTERS VINEYARD RIESLING 2007

PEREN FARMS

NEW ZEALAND
Intense, evolved, of almost sculptural definition, this is classic, perfect Riesling at its peak. Flinty minerality mingles with ripe red apples and apricot fruit, suffused with typical petrol nuances and lime zest. The entry is sweet, turning to dry in mid palate with a honeyed quality. Big, firm, complex, opulent flavours, yet taut steely texture and marvellous depth. Fabulous now, but will develop further.

MAY DE LENCQUESAING, GLENELLY WINE ESTATE TROPHY FOR BLENDED RED WINE

PIRRAMIMMA A.C.J 2007

PIRRAMIMMA WINES

AUSTRALIA
Deep dark inky depth of colour, brooding intensity. The nose starts off reluctant, giving smokey oak, meat, spice and dried fruit/herb characters. Slowly the wine gives up its treasure in the mouth. The spice and oak give way to dark intense autumn berry fruit, graphite, anise/menthol, bitter chocolate, the layers go on and on, wound around a tannic core, which spirals upwards and outwards giving an intense burst of richness and character in the mouth before lingering, almost dawdling, to the finish.

BOUCHARD FINLAYSON TROPHY FOR PINOT NOIR

PEREGRINE PINOT NOIR 2009

PEREGRINE WINES

NEW ZEALAND
Dark cherry red colour, limpid and bright. Nose is quite shy at first, rusty nail and warm black earth and spice, followed by black cherry, plum and raspberry with a top note of orange.
When you taste a wine like this you understand the term “Peacock’s Tail” in the way that the flavours display themselves across the tongue. Sensuous, nervously controlled elegance are the hallmarks of this absolutely stunning wine. This rose effortlessly to its supreme gold mark with the panel.

ABRAHAM PEROLD TROPHY FOR PINOTAGE, SPONSORED BY THE PINOTAGE ASSOCIATION

SAVANHA NALEDI PINOTAGE 2009

SPIER WINES

SOUTH AFRICA
Opaque with bright purple rim. Highly perfumed nose with dark cherry, some truffle and lots of spice. Big, well rounded in the mouth with loads of body and fully packed with ripe fruit where as well as what the nose had plum and strawberry join the complexity. Supple tannins. Creamy flow and long, fruit-filled finish.

IWSC TROPHY FOR CARMÈNERE

PKNT GOLD CARMENÈRE RESERVE 2009

TERRAUSTRAL

CHILE
Dense opaque red to rim. Very spicy and mineral nose, resinous notes of bitumen, rosemary, black earth, tobacco and liquorice. In the mouth the fruit shines through, mulberry, plum and blackcurrant shot through with vanilla and scented smoke, leading to a very fine, elegant and rich finale. Concentrated, complex, poised and superbly balanced. A real gem!

WARREN WINIARSKI TROPHY FOR CABERNET SAUVIGNON SPONSORED BY ARCADIA VINEYARDS

TRAPICHE FINCA LAS PALMAS 2007

TRAPICHE

ARGENTINA
Well developed and a very attractive nose. A lovely perfume of infused black fruit and violets. Very fine and elegant, crisp clean acidity with a vibrant crunchy black berry. Long and lively.

IWSC TROPHY FOR SHIRAZ/SYRAH

SALTRAM Nº1 SHIRAZ 2002

SALTRAM WINE ESTATE

AUSTRALIA
Lovely rich garnet colour, packed full of complex aromas of mocha, raisins, brown spice and savoury liquorice. The palate is full of wonderfully intense ripe fruit, balanced with fresh herbal nuances. Tannins are beautifully integrated into the opulent body making the wine seamless in the mouth; the finish is endless on this complete wine.
Absolutely benchmark!

LONDON INTERNATIONAL WINE FAIR TROPHY FOR SINGLE VINEYARD RED WINE
