    Is it Quinta de Vargellas?

  2. Rupert Millar says:

    @Adam
    Not Quinta de Vargellas I’m afraid, not the Douro at all. Where else has terraced vineyards?

  3. Bill says:

    Is it in Priorat?

  4. Rupert Millar says:

    @Bill
    Not Priorat either but Mediterranean and its influence is the right idea.

  5. Wink Lorch says:

    Looks remarkably like parts of Côte Rôtie or Hermitage to me, but that’s not quite a Mediterranean region, is it?

  6. Doug says:

    Looks like Banyuls/Collioure a bit, but those are not exactly world-famous vineyards. I would go for northern Rhone, possibly Hermitage.

  7. Wink Lorch says:

    Well, if I’m indeed in the right region, I’ll stick my neck out for Côte Rôtie … part of the give away for N. Rhône is the single-staked [Syrah] vines, even though you see that in steeper vineyards of Germany too, they are even less Mediterranean!

  8. Only place I’ve seen this kind of terracing is Southern Rhone – Chapoutier? Oops, still think Southern Rhone, but have seen this terrace in Bellet in the hills above Nice too.

  9. justin says:

    Is it the hill of Hermitage take from just below the chapel?

  10. Rupert Millar says:

    @Wink
    Ah, but the vines in the Mosel are usually pruned differently…

  11. Nick Oakley says:

    Portofino / Cinque terre?

  12. Christopher says:

    Looks like everyone has settled on France and the Rhone. However, though its not famous, it looks a bit like Txacoli in the Basque country, but that’s an Atlantic influence not Mediterranean. Someone said Priorat, I can see the reason why.

    1. Rupert Millar says:

      In Txacoli they train their vines into canopies though.

      1. Christopher says:

        Well Rupert, you have me there. However, when I visited some years ago, there were many new and young (Hondarrabi) vines, not yet in canopies, and on very steep trellised slopes. But I accept with good grace this doesn’t change the fact this is still not Chacoli in the picture!

        1. Rupert Millar says:

          Well I can’t say that I have explored Txacoli in any great detail, I’m sure they are experimenting with new pruning and I see your point about the slopes…

          Answer by the end of the day.

          1. Christopher says:

            BTW, I meant terraced slopes not trellised! Thank you for not pointing out my error. Look forward to the answer.

  13. Somewhere on the island of Madeira? High altitude, terraced vineyards, probably Sercial grapes?

  14. Adam Baggott says:

    Is it somewhere like St Chinian or in the Rousillon?
