Pernod Ricard to distribute Yao Ming wines
French drinks giant Pernod Ricard has won exclusive distribution rights to Yao Family Wines in China.
The estate was created by Chinese ex-NBA star Yao Ming and is based in California’s Napa Valley.
In a statement Ming said: “We look forward to introducing wine lovers in China to this remarkable wine growing region.
“I believe that wine can bring people together, and make our lives more enjoyable.
“Basketball gave me the opportunity to live in the US and discover many wonderful things in America.
“Now I look forward to bringing great wines from California to the Chinese people.”
Pernod Ricard’s managing director for China, Con Constandis, said that the distributor was “very proud” to be partnering the winery.
“Though we are a global company, we have strong local roots in China which makes this partnership with a man like Yao Ming as special as the quality wines themselves,” he added.
The 2009 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is available in China but will not be available in the US until next year.
