IMW seminar to uncover the secrets of Chablis
The Institute of Masters of Wine is to host a specialist seminar in London on the essence of Chablis.
The event on Monday 21 November will feature wines from vintages over the past 30 years from producers including Louis Michel, Christian Moreau, Dauvissat, Raveneau, Drouhin, Pinson, Malandes, Laroche and Servin.
Hosted by Chablis expert Rosemary George MW, as well as Guillaume Gicqueau-Michel of Domaine Louis Michel et Fils and Fabien Moreau of Domaine Christian Moreau Père et Fils, the seminar will include the opportunity to compare the 1995 vintage from the Grand Cru Les Clos from two great producers.
Over four flights of wines, the panellists will explore what makes Chablis unique, consider the significance of vineyard location and terroir, discuss the use of oak versus steel in winemaking, and analyse the impact of climate change on vintages.
George, who has written two books on Chablis, 25 years apart, admits that when she is forced to answer the perplexing question of what her favourite wine is the answer has to be Chablis.
“I don’t think I shall ever tire of Chablis, and this tasting is a superb opportunity to explore its unique characteristics with two leading members of the younger generation in Chablis who can offer fresh insights into the wine,” she said.
“It is also a rare opportunity to taste mature vintages back to 1987,” she added.
The seminar will run from 10am to 1pm on 21 November at Chandos House, 2 Queen Anne Street, London, W1G 9LQ.
Tickets are priced at £75 each (MW and Institute student discounts apply).
Spaces are limited and early booking is strongly advised.
