Follador to take prosecco upmarket in airports
Follador is launching its DOCG Prosecco in travel retail to try and create a more upmarket category for Italian sparkling wine in the airport shopping environment.
“Travel retail presents us with the perfect shop window to establish our brand internationally,” said marketing director Cristina Follador of the company, which produces prosecco from Valdobbiadene in Treviso, northern Italy.
Global duty free wine and spirits sales are growing at 10% and are now worth US$6.5 billion from over 25 million cases, with airports in South Korea, China and Hong Kong in particular driving growth.
Other historic stand-out travel retail initiatives include May’s pop-up World Class Bar in the BA Club Lounge in Terminal 5, where mixologists were on hand to make complimentary cocktails focusing on Diageo’s Reserve Collection brands, as well as the launch of a bottle of Bombay Sapphire containing over 10,000 Swarovski crystals exclusively in Sydney Airport last January.
The September edition of the drinks business includes an extensive article on the travel retail sector, including growth figures by region and TWFA World Exhibition news.
