Liv-ex indices move up a vintage
The 2008 vintage replaced 1986 on the Liv-ex Fine Wine 100 index at the beginning of the month and other indices saw similar changes.
On the Fine Wine 100, the 1986 wines of Cos d’Estournel, Lafite, Mouton Rothschild, Margaux, Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande and Léoville Las Cases, gave way to the 2008 vintage from Lafite, Haut Brion, Pétrus, Latour and Pontet Canet.
The 1999 and 2002 vintages of Ausone were also removed from the index due to “lack of liquidity”, while Mission Haut Brion 2006, Yquem 2007 and Las Cases 2002 were also added as their levels of trade have increased of late.
A total of 13 wines from 2008 joined the Fine Wine Investables Index. Aside from the first growths and the big Right Bank names of Pétrus, Ausone and Cheval Blanc, Pontet Canet, Montrose, Pichon Baron, Pavie and Ducru Beaucaillou were also included.
The 1998 first growths on the Fine Wine 50 gave way to their 2008 counterparts while four of the first growth 2008s (minus Haut Brion) moved on to the Claret Chip.
July has been slow so far on the indices but was helped by a good month of trading in June. The Fine Wine 50 and Claret Chip both showed small declines at the close of trade last week.
