Punch bolsters entry level wine offer
Punch Taverns has introduced a new look wine list, extending its entry level range in a bid to help publicans select wine that “perfectly matches their offer and marketplace”.
Launched at the end of last month, the 200-strong selection features 25 new listings alongside existing customer favourites. Prices start as low as £3.39 a bottle, with many wines available at below £4.
The pub firm has also created a “Quick Reference Guide”, which allows licensees to compare the various styles and prices in order to compile the right range for their venue,
Punch reports that 44% of its non-tied partners choose to buy their wines from the pub company. In addition to ensuring a competitive alternative to wholesalers, Punch provides its non-tied pub clients with a free wine listing and printing service, free delivery, merchandising assistance and tips on food and wine matching.
The company’s decision to focus on the cheaper end of its list follows shortly after its gloomy April prediction that “The long term decline in drinking out in pubs will continue, driven by changing consumer behaviour, relative price positioning and the impact of regulation.”
