Wine trade gears up for charity bike ride
A small group of keen cyclists from a range of wine-related jobs are just weeks from an intense five-day ride across France to raise money for charity.
The challenge begins in Champagne on Monday 6 June and ends in Hermitage on Friday 10, by which time the pack of 11 cyclists, including db editor Patrick Schmitt (left), will have covered 600km and hopefully raised £15,000 for the Wine and Spirit Trades’ Benevolent.
The ordeal has been organised by Mentzendorff managing director Andrew Hawes to celebrate the Benevolent’s 125th anniversary and covers an entirely new and significantly extended route compared to previous Benevolent bicyle rides across France.
Along with Andrew Hawes and Patrick Schmitt, a range of people from the wine trade are taking part in the challenge including Chris Connolly from Connolly’s Wine Merchants and Phillip Amps from Amps Fine Wines, as well as David Thomas from Caviste.
Each rider is hoping to raise over £1,000 for the Benevolent. To sponsor Patrick, please click here.
