Wine Innovation profile: Tokaj Kereskedohaz

Tokaj Kereskedohaz, which operates under the Crown Estates name for the UK market, is one of the foremost producers of aszu, late harvest and dry white varietal wines from the iconic region of Tokaj in Hungary.

The company, one of the entrants in this year’s Wine Innovation Masters, is the only major wine company in the area that is 100% Hungarian owned.

As owners of 80 hectares of prime vineyards, which include the former fabled great first growth vineyard of Szarvas, Kiraly in Mad and Szentver in Tolcsva, the range of aszu wines is indeed comprehensive.

From 3 puttonyos, through to 4, 5, 6, aszu and aszu essencia, these classic long-life dessert wines are available from various top vintages.

In addition the company produces award-winning late harvest wines, as well as dry white varieties from the Furmint, Harslevelu and Muskotaly grapes.

The wines are distributed in the UK by Pol Roger and will be exhibiting at the London Wine Trade Fair on stand number I20, where a selection of the wines will be available to taste.

The Wine Innovation Masters competition aims to reward those in the trade who are breaking new ground in their wineries and vineyards.
