Tamarind to open sister site in US
London’s Michelin-starred Indian restaurant Tamarind is heading Stateside with the launch of a sister site in California.
The new site – called Tamarind of London – will open at the upmarket leisure destination Crystal Cove Promenade in Newport Beach this summer.
The 144-seat restaurant will offer diners a similar menu to the London venue, with particular focus on traditional Moghul cuisine of North West India.
The site will be opened by Tamarind chief executive Rajesh Suri and executive chef Alfred Prasad.
Prasad admitted he is excited by the challenges he is set to face in the US market.
“It’s going to be very challenging and exciting replicating our signature dishes in a totally different country,” he said.
“I am relishing the opportunity to introduce our brand of Indian cuisine to a whole new clientele and to work with some exciting new products and suppliers.”
Suri added: "We’ve had a number of offers over the years but none has been as attractive as that of Crystal Cove Promenade in Newport Beach.
“It goes without saying that the location is wonderful but we were also very impressed by the locals’ openness to new concepts and dishes."
