Bid for Wine hosts online auction for Wine Relief

Online wine auctioneer Bid For Wine is today launching a special charity auction in aid of Wine Relief – the wine-related fundraising campaign that raises money for Comic Relief’s work in Africa and the UK.

All lots have been donated specifically for the auction and in most cases are very rare or one-offs.

“We’re really pleased to bring this event to a worldwide audience of wine lovers and are tremendously excited by the lots on offer," said Bid for Wine managing director Lionel Nierop.

Throughout last week people were allowed to place advanced "commission" bids on the lots, with the auction starting in earnest today.

Those who placed commission bids before the auction went live will be informed today whether or not they have the winning bid.

Further bids can be placed on all remaining lots until the auction closes at midnight on Friday 18 March.

Among the lots on offer are:

A six litre bottle of Dow’s 2007 Vintage Port donated by Symington Family Estates, awarded 100 points by the Wine Spectator.

A signed Jeroboam of Christian Moreau Père et Fils, Les Clos 2008 Chablis Grand Cru donated by Domaine Christian Moreau Père et Fils.

A magnum of Ridgeview Blanc de Blancs 2001 English sparkling wine donated by Richard Bampfield MW, chairman of the Association of Wine Educators.
