Bibendum signs Chateau de Saint Cosme
Leading Rhône producer Château de Saint Cosme has signed an exclusive UK distribution deal with Bibendum.
The oldest estate in Gigondas, Château de Saint Cosme dates back to 1416, while current owner Louis Barruol’s ancestors bought the estate in 1570.
Barruol, who has been following biodynamic practices for over a year, produces several single-vineyard wines that explore the village’s different terroirs, as well as running a micro-negociant arm making wines from the northern Rhône.
His Gigondas Hominis Fides Château de Saint Cosme 2007 is the only Gigondas ever to have been rated as a "perfect" 100 points by Robert Parker.
The domaine, which has been organic since the ’70s, includes some of the oldest vines in the southern Rhône, with several parcels over 100 years old.
“These wines are among the very best in the Rhône Valley and we have been overwhelmed by the demand for them from our customers since they appeared at our annual tasting in January,” said Bibendum director of buying (northern hemisphere) Stuart Grundy.
Bibendum will be importing a Little James Sauvignon Blanc/Viognier 2010 (RRP £8.49), Côtes du Rhône Blanc 2010 (RRP £11.99), and Côte Rotie 2009 (RRP £34.99) among others for its on-trade and independent merchant customers.
