Aikens to expand under Turkish backing
Tom Aikens is set to relaunch his London flagship restaurant and expand his Tom’s Kitchen brand after securing a new investor, the Istanbul Doors Restaurant Group.
The news follows the Michelin-starred chef’s split from businessman Peter Dubens, who saved Aikens’ business back in 2008 in a pre-pack administration deal that left suppliers nearly £1 million out of pocket.
Aikens will now close his eponymous Chelsea flagship restaurant in June for a three month refurbishment, which is expected to result in a more contemporary feel and less formal atmosphere.
Expansion plans for the Tom’s Kitchen brand are as yet unconfirmed, but it is likely to start in London, building on the existing Chelsea and Somerset House branches.
Istanbul Doors currently operates 12 brands in Turkey, including an Istanbul branch of Zuma and a number of Mediterranean-themed restaurants.
