Interest in 2007 gains apace

Liv-ex reports that the last few days have seen a steady increase in interest for 2007 Bordeaux, particularly left bank names.

The vintage accounted for nearly 40% of the week’s turnover with Lafite leading the top five most traded estates. The others, in order, were Cos d’Estournel, Léoville Las Cases, Carruades de Lafite and Yquem.

More than half of Cos’ trade last week was down to 2007 and 81% of Léoville’s. The best list prices for Lafite and its second wine were £7,350 and £3,509 respectively. Cos was trading at £868, Las Cases for £900 and Yquem for £3,000.

The poor reviews upon release led to a general lack of demand for the wines, which subsequently made them very reasonably priced when compared with vintages that came both before and after. There is also a lot of stock in cellars and warehouses that can be traded. Its availability and value for money are likely the prime reasons for its increased trade recently.
